by:QY Precision      2019-09-03
In the past few years, Japan has become one of the most popular tourist destinations.
Attracted by Japanese cuisine, traditional culture, ice and snow resorts and other attractions, more than 31 tourists from overseas.
19 million hit a record high for the first time in 2018.
This is the seventh year of growth in a row, and relaxed visa conditions have helped drive growth.
But while this influx is a huge business opportunity for other participants in hotels, restaurants and hospitality, it is also an opportunity for innovative it startups to change the status quo.
Many visitors to Japan are digital natives from East Asia who use smartphones almost everything.
And the number of free Wi-
Over the past 10 years, there has been a dramatic increase in Fi points in big cities like Tokyo, and Internet access in rural areas remains a challenge, especially outside hotels and other tourist facilities.
This is a pain point in Tokyo.
WAmazing, a startup based, is working on it.
The company has been distributing SIM cards to travelers for free.
This allows travelers to plan their day using their smartphonesto-
One-day event, but they can also book more than 10,000 accommodations using the WAmazing app.
Users can also book tickets and rentals for ski lifts, as well as insurance and rail passes.
WAmazing has a SIM card distributor at 20 international airports in Japan, serving about 90% of foreign tourists.
So far, it has distributed more than 210,000 SIM cards.
\"In Japan, smartphone penetration is about 70%, but 100% elsewhere in Asia,\" said Kato ko Kato, CEO of WAmazing . \".
\"For these travelers, it is impossible to plan their trip without a smartphone.
Kato founded WAmazing in 2016, a drama about \"wa\" with the prefix meaning \"Japanese\" and \"amazing \".
After graduating from college, she worked in digital marketing for 18 years at the human resources giant recruitment holding company, focusing on business related to the domestic tourism market, worth about 20 trillion yen ($180 billion).
She noted the shift from tour groups to individual travelers and the rise of travel sites and services offered by Internet companies.
At the same time, with the increase of foreign tourists, the population of Japan began to decrease.
From 2013 to 2018, Japanese tourists more than doubled.
In this context, Kato decided to build WAmazing and take advantage of her marketing knowledge
How to connect overseas tourists to some of Japan\'s best attractions.
The SIM card program is a way to make the brand well known in the industry, but the app can also book smoothly for Japanese-speaking travelers and facilities operators who do not speak foreign languages.
WAmazing is mainly aimed at tourists from Taiwan and Hong Kong.
10% to 15% commission for hotel and event bookings (
Snow Resort activities included);
It has also made considerable profits in insurance sales.
The startup has grown rapidly in the past two and a half years.
0. 8 billion yen has been completed ($7. 2 million)
And is about 1 for another. 1 billion yen ($9. 8 million);
It aims to cooperate with overseas investors in the third round.
WAmazing now has about 70 employees, including 30 full-time employees
Time staff and offices in Taiwan and China.
Since October 2018, the company has targeted mainland tourists and launched an app on the WeChat platform.
It also tries to expand its business by creating customers in Australia and ASEAN member states (ASEAN).
It also recently launched its own app in the US. S.
In addition to helping Japanese travelers, Kato\'s goal is to change the industry.
She is considering ideas such as cashless taxis in rural areas and a cafeteria in the resort town where the rotating chef of the local ryokan can provide visitors with a variety of local food.
This move can increase employment in a slower period of time, which may be ideal for foreign guests who do not want to enjoy exquisite ryokan fares every night.
\"We want to be one-
One-stop service for inbound visitors, events, accommodation and shopping including on-duty service
\"Free discounts, we see great potential in China because the Chinese are increasingly interested in enjoying overseas travel,\" Kato said . \".
\"By working with facility operators, we can increase the service for foreigners while serving important domestic markets.
\"Technology is not the only way to change Japan\'s travel model.
